May News

May has been a great month at Newborns in Need. We put together donations for HANDS program individuals and for other people in need. We also received many donations from people at First United Methodist, Andover. Thank you! We are still in need of some items- size 3 or 4 diapers, boys clothes sized 2 or 3T and as always wipes and baby bath wash.

Our June meeting is on its normal date! Wednesday June 6th at 7 pm at 300 Richardson Place! Please bring any large storage containers- if you have any you are not using! We will be doing more organizing of donations.

May marks our one year anniversary as a chapter! We want to thank all of our volunteers for helping us this past year! So our July meeting will be having a thank you bbq. The meeting falls of July 4th so we will be moving it to Saturday July 14th at 5 pm. Please bring your families!

If you know any families or organizations in need please email me at lexington@newbornsinneed.com

April Updates!

This has been yet another busy month for Newborns in Need. I went to Church on Sunday to find the drop off place filled with items for Newborns in Need. We are so thankful for all of the donations and are excited to donate them out to families in need.

Some of the places we’ve donated to recently have been: The Christian Appalachian Project- to help storm victims, Catholic Charities in Louisville and the University of Kentucky NICU.  If you know of any charities or individuals that could use our help email me at lexington@newbornsinneed.org

This month we are donating to individuals at the Harrison County Baby Shower. We will be putting bags together for this event an our meeting this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at our house- 300 Richardson Place. Please come and help us get some donations together! The Baby Shower is on April 24th at 4:30 if anyone wants to come with me. We’ll have a booth where we will be giving people information about Newborns in Need. Let me know if you would like to help!

Our May meeting won’t be too long after our April one! It is on its regular scheduled time- May 2nd at 7 p.m. at our house.  We will be putting together donations for individuals in the HANDS program at that meeting.

Just a reminder if you are interested in holding babies at the University of Kentucky NICU- all you have to do is go through the volunteer process and they will place you in the NICU! Let me know if you have any questions about that!

Thanks everyone for your support and have a great week!

Updates

It is almost spring… I hope in Lexington! We at Newborns in Need have been busy collecting lots of donations and delivering items to individual families and charities. Busy, busy, busy- especially since we have a new baby- Brooks!

Our son Brooks!

We have word from University of Kentucky that to hold babies in the NICU, which many were interested in, you need to fill out the volunteer application and go through the process to become a volunteer at UK. They will then place you in the NICU holding sweet little babies, that don’t get the vital attention they need.

In other news, we will be moving our monthly meeting to our house, 300 Richardson Place, from now on. We have our inventory of donations at our houses and it is just too difficult to move items monthly to a different location, Our March meeting will be March 7th at 7:00 p.m. We will be putting bags of items together for babies at the NICU. Please bring a baby toiletry item, such as baby wash, diaper cream, baby lotion, etc.

Thanks everyone for your continued support- we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you!

Holiday Givings and Meeting

It has been a wonderful holiday season for Newborns in Need in Lexington. We were able to donate many items to children in need.

We donated toys, hats and blankets to several children in the HANDS program.  We also gave diapers and blankets to the Embrace Church in Lexington. We contributed several large items to the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program. We also donated items to individual needy families.

We are so thankful for all of the support we have received, which enables us to do all of our giving! A special thanks to members at the First United Methodist Andover Church. They donated many items that will go to help many needy children!

We will not be having a January meeting this year, due to how hectic this time of year is! Also my husband and I just had a baby- which makes this an extra busy time of year for us! Our next meeting will be February 1st at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Andover.

Thank you everyone and have a happy new year!

Helping the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington

Many families who have babies in the NICU use the services of the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. We thought it would be a great organization for us to help.

We are collecting items that we will donate to the Ronald McDonald House at our next meeting, which is on Wednesday November 2nd at 7:00 pm at First United Methodist Andover in Lexington.

The Ronald McDonald House in Lexington has a wishlist which we will be donating off of.  You can click on the wishlist link and pick an item or two to donate and bring to the meeting. Some of the items include a large box of laundry detergent, toilet tissue, D or AA batteries, Kaboom cleaner, Disinfectant wipes, Bottled water, dish soap or gift cards to office supply stores.

These items will help this wonderful organization!

We are making fleece blankets at our meeting on November 2nd. We are providing the fabric. Please bring fabric scissors. We hope to see you there!

It was so generous of them! We have gotten all 206 items that were donated organized and they are ready to be donated out!

We had a great meeting on October 5th,  where we put together halloween treat bags for the Domestic Violence Program and baby toiletry bags for the University of Kentucky NICU. We will be dropping those off at the respective places next week. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped put these bags together!

Updates!

It is has been a busy time for Newborns in Need in Lexington. We have been dispersing the many donations we received through the baby item drive. We have been able to donate to individual needy families, which has been very rewarding. All of the families we have donated to have children under 2 years old and we hope we can continue to help them in the future! If you know of any individual families who Newborns in Need could help please contact me at lexington@newbornsinneed.org

We also dropped off some preemie diapers and clothes at the University of Kentucky NICU. We are currently communicating with them to get our volunteers in the NICU holding babies! We will keep you posted when we hear more from them about this opportunity.

We currently need donations of any kind. In particular larger sized diapers, formula and bottles are in need.

We are auctioning off a cute gift set! It includes a bib, burb cloth and bloomers that can be personalized and a pacifier clip. The estimated value of the set is 45 dollars. Email me at lexington@newbornsinneed.org if you’re interested!

Great Baby Item Drive!

The baby item drive was a huge hit! We got so many wonderful items- 745 to be exact! We got diapers, blankets and tons of gently used clothes. We were overwhelmed with the success of the drive and are very thankful for the people who donated. We hope to make this a yearly event.

We received a lot of newborn and baby items, but could use items for older kids- sizes 12 months to 3T. Also we could use other sized diapers besides just newborn, especially sizes 3 and bigger. Just a heads up if you plan on donating!

In the near future we hope to have a bake sale, email me at lexington@newbornsinneed.org if you are interested in helping.  We also have lots of projects planned for meetings so make sure to join us! We meet the first Wednesday of everything month at 7 at First United Methodist Andover.  This month we will be making thank you cards and getting diapers ready to donate.

Thank you everyone for your support and we hope to see you at the meeting next week!
